Dear Friends and Neighbours in Pine Meadows
“I’m not going to add last year to my age…….I didn’t use it.”
“Sad News. I broke up with my girlfriend Lorraine. She found out I was seeing another girl, Claire Lee. Good news though! I can see Claire Lee now, Lorraine is gone.”
I thought I should send you a brief email to update you on the status of COVID 19 to our community and our lives. As our government and medical officials have reported today, Ontario is heading into an extremely dire situation. Thank God, our community has to this point remained COVID free. Premier Ford has declared a state of emergency. This means that we all must stay home except to shop for groceries and medical supplies or appointments. If you are outdoors for a walk, gatherings must be held to 5 or less people. Of course, masks, hand sanitization and distancing measures still remain. It has been a long and tough road this far, but we still seem to have a long road ahead. We must continue to be constantly aware of the things we must to do to remain safe and healthy. I received a planned vaccine dispensing timeline from a local pharmacy. According to this timeline injections for our age group will be available in May starting with those people over 75+ years old and then followed by those 60+ years old. The Ontario government is working with pharmacies to allow them to dispense the vaccines. I sent an email to Ted Arnott our MPP and DWG Public Health reminding them of our community which although not a Long Term Care Center, is inhabited by seniors which are prone to being infected by the virus with serious effects. I also suggested that with over 300 residents, a single day for a vaccine clinic in our Community Center could vaccinate all of us who want the vaccine. I heard back from Ted Arnott who directed me to Public Health. As of this writing, I haven’t heard back from Public Health, but I will let you know when I receive a response. St. Andrew Pharmacy (the one who dispensed the Flu Vaccine last year) has also volunteered to administer the COVID19 Vaccine when it is available to him.
You may recall in a recent email, I told you that all of the locks have been changed in the Community Center. We think we have the names of most of the people who have keys to some of the locks but are still looking for those who have keys to the storage room located in the hallway to the pool. If you have one of these keys, please call Dana Burdenuk at 519-787-7000 ex 221 to request a replacement.
Are you getting tired of looking at the same 4 walls? A neighbour of ours had the same feelings so she brought out some colourful pictures of beach scenes, hung them in her living room and brightened up her spirits. Now she just needs a pool boy to serve her drinks!
Don Vallery has advised me that he is keeping Phase 1 of the campground open. He is trying to keep the roads cleared so that we have a nice wooded area to walk through. Don cautions us that there are some ice patches, so if you choose to walk in the campground, take care and wear the appropriate footwear for walking on ice. The easiest access would be through the main entrance by the office.
It has been brought to my attention by Dana, that there is a free webinar available to anyone who wants to remain in their own home but require assistance, either physically or mentally. The webinar is scheduled to take place on January 26th at 11:30 am. Del Wilmot from Wilmot Financial Services in Fergus will be hosting this important and timely webinar. This CARP endorsed product allows you to stay at home and get the care you need there and not in a LTC facility. This has become especially important for many Seniors during these times as we deal with Covid. Del will go over all the features and benefits of this product and there will be time after the presentation for you to ask questions. If you would like to join the webinar, please email Susanne Wilmot at [email protected] and she will send you a link to the webinar. The Victoria Park Seniors Centre is facilitating this webinar through their office. If you would like to attend but are unsure how to use ZOOM, Susanne can help get you set up on your device very easily. Click on the following link for further information on the product Del will be talking about MyDignity (Your Care Your Way) 5 Minute Video
